According to British media talkSPORT, Manchester City will sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford back.
Traford was pursued by Newcastle this summer after performing well in the Championship. Trafford tied England's first four-tier league record for a single season with 29 clean sheets.
After matching Newcastle's offer, Manchester City is now expected to sign him for £27 million.
Trafford rejected Newcastle and agreed to sign a five-year contract with Manchester City, with the option of renewing the contract for an additional 1 year.
Manchester City sold him to Burnley in 2023 for an initial transfer fee of £15 million. Trafford made 28 appearances in the Premier League for the team before Burnley was relegated to the Championship. Then, with Trafford guarding the goal, Burnley conceded only 16 goals in 46 games and successfully returned to the Premier League.
Manchester City goalkeeper Ortega has attracted the attention of Burnley and Leicester City.
Newcar had twice offered Trafford last summer, although personal terms had been reached with the players at the time.
Traford played for Carlisle United youth team in his early years and later played 23 times for Manchester City's youth training echelons at all levels.
He joined Ackerlington on loan in the first half of the 2021/22 season, but left after only 11 appearances. Trafford then signed with Bolton Rangers in the second half of the season and maintained a clean sheet in the first four games.
In July 2023, Burnley signed him with a transfer fee of up to 19 million pounds, and his debut was against his old club Manchester City.
Traford was selected for the 2024/25 Championship Team and won the Golden Glove Award.
