The Liverpool Echo reported that Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton was close to transfer to Lyon for a fee of £15 million.

Lyon listed Morton as the primary signing target this summer and finally finalized the transfer. Although the deal has not been completed yet, it has entered the final stage. Morton, 22, is about to join the Ligue 1 team, with the total transfer price including achievable additional terms and a 20% second transfer share.

Several clubs, including the Championship team Ipswich, had been interested in Morton, but none of them could match Lyon's offer. Lyon has been plagued by financial problems in recent years, which led to them being demoted to Ligue 2 in June when they ranked sixth in Ligue 1 last season and qualified for the Europa League, but the penalty was revoked the following month after appeal.

As a player trained by Liverpool Youth Training Academy, Morton made his first-team debut in the League Cup against Norwich in September 2021, and also won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup starting opportunities that season. He performed well during his loan period on Blackburn in 2022-23 and his loan at Hull City the following year. He returned to Liverpool last season, but he only scored 5 appearances and 0 appearances in the Premier League.

Morton was last on the official squad in January, and he has since suffered a shoulder injury. However, in the preseason led by new coach Slott, he got a stable chance to play.

This transfer will increase Liverpool's potential transfer revenue this summer to £145 million.
