Today, Chelsea announced on the club's official website that Chelsea Legends will face Liverpool Legends at Stamford Bridge on October 11, 2025, and Di Matteo will coach Chelsea Legends in this game.
This classic showdown will rekindle the old grudges between the two teams. The match aims to raise funds for the Chelsea Football Club Foundation and the Chelsea Players Trust, two organizations dedicated to supporting the welfare of players who have contributed to the club’s glory today.
As part of the club's 120th anniversary celebration, the match will see several Chelsea legends return to Stamford Bridge, including head coach Di Matteo and captain Terry, who led the team to win the UEFA Champions League in 2012.
Di Matteo said: "I am very excited to coach Chelsea Legends again, and we will work hard to get revenge after Anfield's defeat in March and bring a great game for our fans, while raising important funds for the Chelsea Football Club Foundation and the Chelsea Players Trust."
Terry added: "In my career, Chelsea's match against Liverpool has always been full of fierce competition. I'm looking forward to it. October once again ignited these old confrontations for charity. As captain for more than 15 years, the Chelsea Football Club Foundation and the Chelsea Player Trust mean a lot to me. ”
Looking back on Chelsea's 120-year history, there have been many historic matchups between the Blues and the Reds, including the 2012 FA Cup final, multiple Champions League clashes and key victories in the final match of the 2002/03 Premier League season. Laura Codingley, CEO of Chelsea Football Club Foundation, said: "We are very excited to host this legendary tournament at Stamford Bridge as part of the club's 120th anniversary celebration. It will be a special historical celebration, but also supports the work of the Chelsea Football Club Foundation and the Chelsea Players Trust. The funds raised in the game are crucial to continue our positive impact in the community and support the welfare of former Chelsea players." Tickets will be open to season ticket holders first at 2pm on August 27, and then to members the next day, with the remaining tickets starting publicly on September 1.
