On Tuesday local time, Liverpool officially announced the signing of Colin Stewart as the new goalkeeper coach.
Liverpool officials said that Colin Stewart has joined the Liverpool coaching staff as the new goalkeeper's development and promotion channel director. The Scottish coach, who has played for the Glasgow Rangers for nine years, will now join Slott’s behind the scenes.
In the first two years of working at the Wanderer, he was in charge of the goalkeeper program at the club's youth camp, and was later promoted to first-team goalkeeper coach and worked in the position for seven years. Stewart, who was a professional goalkeeper, has also worked with the Scottish FA for more than a decade, where he serves as a goalkeeper coach trainer to provide relevant courses across the country.
Now, Stewart will assist Xavi Barrero (who has returned to Liverpool as the head of the first team goalkeeper coach) in his daily work and conduct on- and off-court training with senior goalkeepers in the Reds.
In addition, Stewart will also be responsible for overseeing the rental strategy of goalkeepers who are moving from youth training to adult teams, and serve as a bridge of communication between the first team, loan management team and the U21 echelon.
