According to The Athletic, after a club meeting to discuss Palmer's groin injury, the player is expected to be sidelined until November.
Palmer will miss Chelsea's first game after the international break, the away game against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on October 18. He will also miss the Champions League game at home against Ajax, the Premier League game against Sunderland and the fourth round of the League Cup away game against Wolves.
Palmer aggravated the injury in Chelsea's 2-1 loss to Manchester United, which caused him to miss two games in August. Anonymous sources at the club said it would still be weeks before he returns.
Chelsea coach Maresca initially hoped that he would only miss the Premier League home games against Brighton and Liverpool and the Champions League against Benfica, but insisted that Palmer will not need surgery. Chelsea lost 3-1 to Brighton in their first league game after Palmer's injury worsened, but then beat Benfica 1-0 in the Champions League and beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Premier League last weekend.
